Here's the big problem I have: Its a Hollywood production. Which means that there are certain things done with it that are not historically accurate. Remember what I said in class: my wife and the rest of my family never want to see a movie with me present that has to do with anything historical or that presents itself as being very historical. Its the historian in me that just can't allow me to watch and enjoy; I am always analyzing and picking things apart. I have read a number of reviews on the e-mail list-serve I am a part of for AP Euro teachers and many are already picking it apart and NOT recommending it for classes as a part of the curriculum. They DO praise some of the scenes in the movie, one teacher writing about Phillip II of Spain and the movies portrayal of his palace, the Escorial. So, if you individually want to go see it, and can suspend reality and your knowledge of Elizabeth for long enough, I commend you and hope you enjoy the movie. Otherwise, I would skip it and wait to rent it for $3.99 from Hollywood Video or Blockbuster. Just my two cents, what do the rest of you think??? Post your thoughts on this issue!!!
