Okay, so I've always strongly disliked Columbus and thought he's quite a horrendous barbarian. The fact that there were no criminals is little consolation as the natives were raped and pillaged anyway. Maybe they would have been better off if a few inmates had come along and put good ole' Chris out of his misery before he had the opportunity to begin the mass destruction of an entire race of people. Sorry to rant, Columbus just isn't exactly my bff but I do respect that everything happens for a reason and that modern history might have been re-written.

Even knowing this information, I still dislike Columbus. His treatment of Native Americans was just the sad beginning of era of basic genocide for them and their culture.

If he hadn't done it someone would have Also to whoever was asking who was the first to discover America... as far as Europeans go the first post-columbus person to discover North America the continent was apparently a man named Giovanni Caboto who landed in Labrador, Canada... however the Vikings were in Newfoundland 500 years prior to Columbus's discovery and even before them the first recorded European discovery of America was in the sixth century by an Irish Monk named Saint Brendan, its heavily disputed whether this is just legend or if it is true but they have found pretty heavy evidence suggesting that the Irish were actually the first Europeans to discover America. Do I get extra credit Mr. Flickinger? ;D

"Grand Master Flickinger" Okay... Sorry to ruin your fun Mr. Grand Master and all but T Meador told some of us his myths last year. History is written by the winners, so of course Cristofo Columbo was portrayed as a hero who discovered a new land rather than a scandalous fool who thought he landed on an Island of India.
